Skipping Girl is a little burger joint in Abbotsford- just a trams ride away from Parliament station in Melbourne’s CBD. I expected big things from Skipping Girl, as they have built up quiet the reputation by being on The Broadsheet Best Burgers in Melbourne, as well as making it into the Burgers Of Melbourne, Ultimate Burger List.
We sat down and started having a bit of a chat with the owner, Eyal. We quickly realized that Skipping Girls concept for burgers was just good produce, putting time into preparation and bringing out a great product to every customer.
We ordered, I chose the double beef burger. It came with 2 wagyu beef patties, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and skipping girl sauce. We also had the Mexican Poutine. The Poutine came with chicken, jalapenos, cheese and gravy, of course. We also grabbed a side of the smoky mac and cheese which lived up to it’s name. Super smoky and really delicious.
The burger was really good. The beef was cooked beautifully and all of the ingredients just complimented each other. Nothing was overpowering. It was also impressive to see they used real brioche buns. So soft and buttery, really great to see.
The poutine was also amazing! I personally love poutine. I don’t really think you can beat the gravy and cheese combo. I found out you can make it better though. With the addition of jalapenos (which added a nice amount of heat), as well as beautifully coated succulent chicken, it was fair to say I was in heaven. These were the best loaded fried I have eaten. The thrice cooked fried were also ridiculously tasty.
I think this review says is all. Skipping girl is a great venue. The goods are produced on the daily and that isn’t going to change with Eyal at the helm. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Skipping Girl at the top of many future Melbourne burger lists.
